| New private sector regulations |
Independent
healthcare is changing. The ever closer relationship between
the private and public healthcare systems has resulted in more
accountability, with the public being empowered to judge performance.
The Department of Health has set National Minimum Standards,
under the Care Standards Act 2000. The National Care Standards
Commission - an independent body - has been set up to regulate
this industry.
The National Minimum Standards provides a benchmark against
which the quality of service can be measured. It provides
patients, service users and the public with assurances about
the safety, quality and efficiency of the services provided.
It seeks to give them the power of choice.
The need for high
quality information that is accurate, relevant and accessible
has never been greater
