| The new NHS |
The
NHS is changing. It needs to become a more responsive, patient-centred
service that empowers frontline staff and patients.
The NHS plan sets ambitious targets, central to which is shifting the balance of power to frontline staff and patients as well as reducing waiting times in all areas.
The Expert Patient Initiative seeks a fundamental shift in
the way chronic disease is managed - encouraging and giving
patients the tools to take an active role in their own care.
The Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST), and the Scottish equivalent CNORIS, requires patients provide informed consent prior to a treatment or investigation. Informed consent enables patients to actively choose a course of action that is right for them as individuals, being guided by professionals, but taking responsibility for their own decisions.
The need
for high quality information that is accurate, relevant and
accessible within the NHS has never been greater
