ICON - Informed Consent On the Net - Is an innovative web-based training program for teaching health professionals about the law and practice of gaining fully informed consent. It is a collaborative work created by Dumas Ltd - digital medical publishing and InPractice - legal training consultants to the healthcare sector.

The ICON software is suitable for educating all levels of healthcare practitioner. Developed in mid 2005, it contains approximately 100 case studies that explain the practical implications of the very latest laws on consent and how health professionals can act in a defensible, rather than a defensive way.

Using text, decision-making charts, legal extracts and statutes; answers are explained in clear, non-legalistic language. The lessons can be stopped and resumed at the users convenience, the software saves the user's current progress and score. The user's performance is constantly assessed throughout and scores can be printed on demand. The 21 modules include sections on capacity, information, Department of Health forms, advanced directives, specific user groups, human rights, confidentiality and, more recently, human tissue and post mortems.

Our multi-user licence is aimed at Healthcare organisations, and includes a fully auditable training record management tool. Using this an administrator can track and verify scoring and progress of all individuals undergoing the training. This management tool gives immediate and precise organisation-wide statistics of user compliance and performance; providing valuable data for risk management purposes.
